CAS: The Council for Academic Standards
The Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) is pleased to announce publication of its January 2008 revision of Learning Assistance Programs Standards and Guidelines and its companion Self-Assessment Guide. Learning Assistance Programs Standards and Guidelines will be part of the 7th edition of The Book of Professional Standards for Higher Education, which is scheduled for 2009 publication. In the meantime, both the standards and guidelines document and the self-assessment guide are available through CAS online at www.cas.edu. Both documents are designed to help learning assistance programs engage in self-assessment activities.
NADE is one of over 35 professional associations that comprise CAS. The CAS mission is to develop and promote standards and guidelines that reflect best practice in quality programs and services for students in higher education. NADE sends its director to semi-annual CAS meetings and is involved in creation of new standards and in the review and revision of current standards. Historically, NADE members were instrumental in development of the initial set of CAS standards for learning assistance programs. In addition, the CAS standards formed a foundation for development of the NADE Self-Evaluation Guides. Thanks to NADE members who have provided input both for creation and revision of standards and guidelines for quality Learning Assistance Programs.
