Internet Discussion Groups

A variety of computer discussion groups (e.g., listservs) often have discussions of potential interest to NADE members. Below, you will find:

  1. general directions on how to subscribe to a listserv, followed by
  2. a lengthy list of relevant listservs you might want to join.

How to Subscribe to Most Listservs

To subscribe to one of the discussion groups, send mail to the Listserv address. Leave blank the name and subject headings, and in the body of the message type:
    Subscribe <Listserv Name> <Your First Name> <Your Last Name>

For example, if John Doe was subscribing to the LRNASST Listserv, he would type in the body of the message:
    Subscribe LRNASST John Doe

There are some Listservs that require permission to subscribe. If that is so, you will receive a message back informing you that your request will have to be approved. Don't be offended. The Listservs are trying to keep people off who have no connection with education but who are trying to sell commercial products, life insurance and the like.

    2. Leave the subject header blank.

You should receive a welcome message in your email box from Winnie Cooke, the LRNASST-L moderator, soon after you email your request to subscribe. Thereafter, check your mailbox daily to read the LRNASST-L messages that automatically come to it. Even a message that you send to LRNASST-L for the group to read will be emailed back to you since you are a member of the LRNASST-L distribution list.
